Do you love the live experience, but want to experience more than just the black box of the theatre or the white cube of the museum? Then Beyond the Black Box is the festival for you.

For four days, the Brakke Grond will be transformed into a living laboratory for creators who operate not within the boundaries of theatre, dance, visual arts or digital media, but in between and beyond them.

Creators build virtual worlds, create collective rituals, let images breathe and voices sound. New forms of togetherness emerge, in which meaning grows from movement, sound and encounter.

The entire building is used as a living network of experiences. Some works call for action, others for silence and attention. The festival forms an artistic playground in which you discover installations, performances and interventions—from intimate one-on-one encounters to large-scale spectacles.

Beyond the Black Box is a festival for those who are curious about what art can be. A four-day adventure full of movement, attention and experimentation—where disciplines blur, boundaries shift and audience and creator explore new worlds together. Immerse yourself in the programme and be surprised by art that gets under your skin. 

Festival Beyond the Black Box is a programme by Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond, in collaboration with Platform 0090, C-Takt and SoAP Maastricht.

The 2026 edition will take place from 12 February to 15 February.
