Matthé’s performance departs from a scene ob- served in his travels, and documented in a slide-show that functions as visual ‘title card’ for his test of endurance and meaning, of work and worth. Traversing the main exhibi- tion space in circular motion and in pursuit of an endlessly unfulfilled task, Matthé illuminates a particular form of engagement: one to do with stasis and suspension, more than the symbolic resolution that art promises.
