Born in 1968 in Targovishte, Bulgaria lives and works in London. Ergin Çavuşoğlu is an artist who has exhibited internationally at a number of prestigious museums and biennials, including two large-scale installations at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York in 2016, and the representation of Turkey at the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003. Çavuşoğlu in his talk entitled “Spectrum of Redundancy” presented recently at the Guggenheim Museum in New York said “Central to my artworks are concepts that frequently explore ideas of place, space, liminality, mobility and the conditions of cultural production, which I have been examining in classical, modern and contemporary guises through painting, drawing, video and sound installations and sculptures. […] My works frequently engage with the in-between spaces of urban environments: airports, waterways, marketplaces, historical sites and national borders. These are also places of mobility, where ships, currencies, people, and time pass in disengagement from their geographical coordinates. Many of my early video pieces were filmed at night, when spaces become liminal and redefined creating a sense of demarcation.”
